PHOTOGRAPHY CODE OF CONDUCT

As a youth storyteller, you represent Shire and your volunteer organization. Your role is to capture the spirit of the farm in a way that is safe, respectful, and responsible.

1. Safety Comes First

Never enter restricted or unsafe areas.
Stay clear of machinery, animals, tools, and vehicles unless instructed.
Do not climb structures or move equipment to get a photo.
Follow all instructions from supervisors.
If unsure, ask before taking the shot.

🌿 No photo is more important than your safety.

2. Respect People’s Privacy

Always be respectful when photographing others.
Avoid close-up photos of people unless permission has been confirmed.
Do not photograph anyone who asks not to be photographed.
Do not capture private or sensitive situations.
Never photograph inside restrooms or private spaces.

🌿 If someone seems uncomfortable, don’t take the photo.

3. Be a Positive Storyteller

Your photos should reflect:

Community
Hard work
Learning
Nature
Fun
Respect

Avoid:

Embarrassing moments
Unsafe behavior
Conflicts
Inappropriate gestures or language
Content that could harm someone’s reputation

🌿 If you wouldn’t want it posted about you, don’t capture it about someone else.

4. Equipment Responsibility

Use Shire-provided phones only for project purposes.
Do not log into personal social media accounts.
Do not post directly to social media.
Return equipment at the end of the session.
Report any damage or issues immediately.

🌿 All content will be reviewed by Shire before being shared.

5. Supervision & Boundaries

Stay within designated areas.
Work in visible, supervised locations.
Do not leave the group without permission.
Follow directions from both nonprofit leaders and Shire staff.

6. Content Ownership & Use

Photos taken as part of the Shire Stories Project may be used by Shire for storytelling, educational, and promotional purposes. By participating, you acknowledge that your work supports Shire’s mission and community outreach.

7. When in Doubt

If you are unsure whether something is appropriate to photograph:
Pause. Ask a supervisor. Choose a different shot.
